Save September
United States
Hi, allow me to introduce my friends Ahmed and Rawaa, and their kids Shafiq (8), Hayam (6), and Ayloul (2).
I’d like to tell you about how Ahmed is a poet like his father, how Rawaa and Hayam love dressing up and even did some modeling for local shops, how Shafiq is the student teachers argue over to have in their class, and how Ayloul means September for her birth month. But instead I need to tell you about the nightmare they are living through right now and how you can ease their incredible burden.
Since the war began, Ahmed and his family have been displaced 18 times. With the ongoing invasion of Gaza City, they’ll be forced to make the journey South yet again. Due to the complete blockade, hyperinflation has driven up prices for everything, including food, medicine, and transportation. But without a ride, they’ll be forced to leave everything except for what they can carry for 20 miles. Then, when they arrive in the South they will have to purchase new bedding, shelter, household items, etc. at an incredible cost.
Please help this wonderful family get what they need to make their journey as painless as possible and to keep their strength up as they navigate what comes next.
“Amid the rubble and scars of the war that have not yet healed, and in light of years of suffering, Gazans have found themselves facing a new test that compounds their pain. After they were exhausted by the scenes of destruction, killing, and disappearance, and the siege left its mark on the details of their daily lives, including the lack of food and medicine, the Corona virus came to make the scene darker.
At Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, five new cases of the virus were recorded, raising fears of the spread of the infection in an environment already suffering from a severe shortage of medical and preventive capabilities. Medical staff are doing their best to use the available tools, sterilizing the wards, isolating the infected from the rest of the patients, and living in constant concern that the area of infections will expand in a society that lacks the most basic elements of protection.
It is a renewed story of pain for the people of Gaza, where wounds pile on top of each other. A war that has left hearts burdened with loss, a blockade that deprives people of treatment and medicine, and the starvation policies imposed on them in an attempt to subjugate them, the latest of which is an epidemic that threatens the lives of many. However, there is still a renewed hope that the dawn will come no matter how long the night lasts.”
