From Gaza to Safety: Help Us Survive
United States
My name is Ismail and I am from Gaza. I graduated with a degree in Accounting in 2023, carrying dreams and ambitions like any other young man. I longed for a future of stability, dignity, and peace. I dreamed of building a home, of living a simple life with safety and joy. But tragedy struck, and everything was stolen from me. War and destruction took away my house, my safety, and even the simple right to live as a human being.
I grew up in wars, but what we are living through today feels like complete annihilation. We were displaced from our home more than once, and for nearly a year I lived with my family in tents. Tents that did nothing to protect us against the burning heat of summer or the freezing cold of winter. Nights filled with hunger, fear, and exhaustion– nights where survival was the only dream.
When we finally returned to our home, we thought we could breathe again. But our joy was shattered. The bombs never stopped falling. In our neighorhood, Al-Sabra, massacres and devastation swallowed the streets. We were forced to leave again, standing among ruins, between collapsed walls, and above the bodies of those who will never return. Every day here is a battle for survival.
We have never known what a “normal life” truly means. We never knew safety, freedom, or even a single night of real peace. I watch the world speak of love, freedom, and humanity, while we search only for clean water, for bread, for one night without fear.
My dreams lie buried inside me, like the dead in their graves awaiting resurrection. And yet, each morning, I force myself to invent a false hope– just enough to keep moving forward. What keeps me alive is my family. I love them more than life itself, and all I want is to see them safe, to see them smile, to see them live.
Life has been unbearably cruel. It has never allowed me to live even a single day as a normal young man– in a simple home, with food on the table, with peace at night. But I am still clinging to a fragile thread of hope: that one day, life will return to me; that I can rebuild, start again, and live with dignity, safety, and peace.
Today, I am not asking for the impossible. I am asking just one chance –a chance to leave Gaza, to rebuild my life, and to finally live the way every human being deserves. I share my story with you in the hope that you will be the hand that lifts me from beneath the rubble.
Your support could give me and my family a new life– a life of safety, peace, and dignity– and remind us that humanity still exists in this world.
Please, help me live. Help me dream again.
