My name is Alex, and I had the honour of working as a volunteer teacher with extraordinary Palestinian students through projects like Language Beyond Borders and Gaza Sky Geeks. Today, I’m reaching out not just as an educator, but as someone who deeply cares. One of my former students—a bright soul who has also taught me many things —has lost everything in Khan Younis, Gaza. His family is now displaced, struggling to survive amid unimaginable devastation. This campaign is a call for help, a chance to stand with them in a moment of urgent need. Please read his story below. Please donate any sum to increase their chances of surviving war and famine. *** Hello, my name is Moamen El-Abadsa. I’m a software developer from Gaza Strip. I graduated top of my class from the Islamic University of Gaza and worked as a teaching assistant. I had a dream of continuing my education abroad and specializing in Cloud Computing — but the war had other plans. Since the war began, we lost our home and everything we owned. Every member of my family lost their jobs due to the lack of electricity and unstable internet. My father, a visual artist, lost his entire life’s work — thousands of paintings created over more than 40 years — all gone in an instant. Since March, barely any food has entered Gaza. What little does come in is often stolen. Food prices are unimaginably high — one kilogram of flour costs around $100, and infant formula is just as expensive. Famine has reached catastrophic levels. We are literally on the brink of starvation. I have lost half of my body weight in the last two months, and my cat has become a skeleton, close to death because I have nothing to feed him. I have been learning English for years, dreaming of pursuing a scholarship and continuing my academic journey. But I can’t even afford the IELTS exam or the cost of issuing a passport — both essential for any scholarship or chance to leave. As Palestinians in Gaza, we feel abandoned by the world. Gunfire and bombings are getting closer every day, and our calls for help go unanswered. Despite everything, I still hold onto the dream of surviving this war — with my family — and continuing my education. I am launching this campaign for the following reasons: To secure the most basic needs: food, water, medicine, and infant formula. To pay for the IELTS exam and obtain a passport. To use the donations for migration or travel out of Gaza at the earliest possible opportunity.
