EMERGENCY: Help Doaa’s young family survive famine in Gaza
United States
I’m raising funds for my cousin, Doaa Shawa, who is currently in Gaza. Doaa is the mother of three young children—Maysaa, Majid, and Zain—and has been displaced multiple times. Her family has endured relentless bombings, been trapped under rubble, and faced unimaginable trauma and loss. Here is Doaa’s message:
August 2025
My name is Doaa Sami Shawa, a pharmacist from Gaza City and a mother of three beautiful children:
We are living through a genocide, and your solidarity can help keep my children alive.
Since the beginning of the war, my children have been bombed, displaced, starved, and injured — over and over again.
The last time, we miraculously survived as we walked out of the rubble during a so-called ceasefire.
My baby, Zain, cries constantly from the sound of bombs, hunger, and lack of milk. He had to undergo hernia surgery due to this. Now, he urgently needs emergency testicle surgery.
My daughter Mysaa has been injured multiple times. Her dream is simple: to go to kindergarten and learn. She has a gift for drawing, but she’s been deprived of her most basic rights.
I try to teach her at home, but she’s now struggling to concentrate and memorize — the result of ongoing starvation.
All my children have grown too weak to play or even move. I often see them lying on the floor — thin, exhausted, and losing their strength.
They’re suffering from hepatitis due to water contamination.
Majid has deep second-degree burns on his chest, suffers from osteoporosis, and no longer recognizes fruits or vegetables — he simply doesn’t remember them anymore.
They are growing thinner every day.
Watching my children deteriorate is killing me inside.
What breaks me the most is when Mayssa tells me she’d rather die — like her uncle — to go to paradise, where she can have fruit, sweets, and toys.
This shatters my heart.
All I want is to protect my children and raise them in a safe environment, physically and emotionally.
Right now, we are displaced, living in a bombed-out room in a relative’s home that we’ve turned into a makeshift tent.
We are homeless, without jobs, income, dreams — or hope.
We have no food, no safe shelter, and no access to medical care.
But we’re still here. And we’re still holding on — because of the compassion and support of people like you.
Please, think of me as a mother. Think of my children.
If you are able to help, here are our most urgent needs:
Monthly donations help us survive one day at a time. Even a share or a kind comment gives us strength.
With love and deep gratitude,
Doaa
