7 DAY FAST TO RAISE MONEY FOR FOOD FOR MY FRIEND YOUSEF IN GAZA.

Starting on Monday 11th August 2025 I will be fasting for 7 days. This means I will not eat anything at all but will continue to drink liquid

I realise that this is nothing to compare with the hunger of those in Gaza and this is just to raise funds, not make comparisons

I am trying to raise funds for my friend Yousef and his family

Since his father was martyred by Israeli bombing, Yousef has become the sole provider for his family.

Yousef studied at the University in Gaza, passing exams to be a lawyer just as the genocide started.

When their house was bombed by the Israeli occupation, they were displaced. Since then they have been moved/displaced many many times.

The bombing has martyred many members of his family, including his father and a sister, brothers, uncles and aunts.

The killing doesn’t just take away family members, it also kills hopes and dreams for the future.

Yousef is now the sole provider for what is left of his close family. He has to provide shelter, clothing, food and water for his mother, his martyred sister’s two young children, his sister (her husband was martyred) and her daughter and two of his younger sisters.

For reference. Before the genocide started, a bag of flour cost around 45 Shekels. The price is now up to 300 to 500. Depending on the area and availability, the price could be as high as 1000 which is far far beyond the reach of the majority of people.

Update: My fast started well. I weighed in at 57.2kg.

Day 3: My fast continues well. The killing and starvation in Gaza carries on in nightmare proportions. The blockage by the occupation on all aid has not been lifted or eased. Innocent men, women and children are dying simply for a piece of bread or a sip of water.

Day 4. My fast continues. I messaged with Yousef today, his hair is falling out due to worry, stress and malnutrition so he’s cut off the rest of it very short.

Day 5: My fast is still going well. The occupation is still blocking all aid entering Palestine so the meagre amounts of food available, are selling at prices much much higher than most can afford. I can’t even imagine what it’s like to watch your lived ones crying in hunger and slowly dying in front of your eyes. If I’m in pain watching these scenes play out on my phone, then no words can explain the deep pain these people are going through.

Day 6: I won’t lie, my fast has been hard today but I will prevail and finish it. Today I joined thousands of others in Sheffield, Yorkshire for a pro Palestinian march. If you haven’t yet donated then please do so now. Even £1 is gratefully accepted. More than the money, it shows we haven’t forgotten about the people trying to survive genocide and that is priceless.

Day 7: Today is the last day of my fast. Thank you to everyone who donated and to all the people who encouraged and supported me. Yousef also wanted me to express his heartfelt thanks. I will keep the appeal open until the end of the month for any late donors so please continue to share and encourage others to donate.

To anyone who cannot donate, please keep the people of Palestine in your thoughts and prayers and please do all you can to help them regain their freedom which has for far too long been denied them. Humanity is counting on you.
