Support Fares and His Family in Gaza
Canada
Hi everyone, my name is Lin, and I’m a community worker based in Tkaronto (“Toronto”), in so-called “Canada.” I’m reaching out to ask for your support in raising urgently needed funds for my friend Fares and his family.
Fares is from Gaza and has been living in China for over seven years. He was an international student, but after his studies ended, he applied for asylum through the UNHCR and now lives with refugee status, which must be renewed every six months. Although Fares tries to work online to cover rent and living expenses, his income is unstable, and unexpected costs like hospitalization or landlords demanding months of rent upfront make survival even harder. Recently, he was diagnosed with asthma and now faces the additional financial burden of expensive monthly medication.
Meanwhile, his family in North Gaza is facing catastrophic conditions. They are currently living in a camp with extremely limited access to food, aid, and basic safety. The economic blockade and violence have driven food prices to unthinkable levels. Here is the current cost of some basic staples in Gaza:
1kg of flour: $60 USD
1kg of sugar: $120 USD
1kg of pasta: $30 USD
1kg of lentils: $26 USD
1kg of rice: $45 USD
1kg of tomatoes and eggplant: $34 USD
1kg of potatoes: $30 USD
Fares’ father and brother are the sole providers for a large extended family, including Fares’ mother, who has been living with a severe mental illness. His father also has diabetes and needs regular medication. This is a family doing everything they can to survive under extraordinary circumstances.
We are asking for donations of any amount. Every dollar helps. But I also invite you to consider becoming a monthly donor. Monthly donations provide a steady source of support that Fares and his family can rely on for food, medication, and other critical needs. In a time of so much instability, your ongoing support can offer a small but powerful sense of security.
Please give what you can, and if you’re unable to donate at this time, sharing this appeal widely is also a meaningful way to help.
