Sanad means “support” in Arabic. The Sanad-Initiative is a fully volunteer-led grassroots organization that is committed to supporting displaced Palestinians in Gaza and Cairo, led by other displaced Palestinians. Being run by people who are affected themselves, Sanad-Initiative intimately understands the unique challenges displaced Palestinians have to face. Sanad-Initiative addresses the most pressing needs and therefore constantly adapts it’s work to current events. 100% of all donations go directly into the core mission of the Initiative. The scope of Sanad’s activities and reach depends on the amount of money that can be raised.

Target groups: inside Gaza and in Cairo, where we target the sick and wounded in particular and displaced families in general.

Here a few words of the founder of the Initiative:

Hi, I’m Amaal. I’m a Social Development graduate and Youth Activist. I’m passionate about defending youth’s and women’s rights issues. Ever since my life turned upside down, I am dedicating my time to help my people in any way I can, to navigate the journey of survival (in Gaza) and healing (in Cairo).

We do not just give aid. Everything we do is to revitalise our community. We are Gazans ourselves so we understand how important this is. We remember this in every small detail; even our cash envelopes are hand decorated with love and liberation.

The Sanad team works to restore dignity, provide hope, and improve the quality of life for refugees and those in need.

Note from the fundraising team:

Rebecca, Kyra, Luisa, Rae, and Elle all recently went to Cairo, Egypt as part of the Global March to Gaza.

From Rebecca: Kyra and I were fortunate enough to be able to meet with Amaal, founder of Sanad Initiative. We heard her stories, her husband’s stories, heard of their horrific experiences in Gaza, and all the family members they lost. They’re just 2 of countless devastating stories like these from Gaza. While they were able to evacuate to Cairo, not all of their family members were able to– we spoke to some of them on a video call.

While I am so deeply saddened by their stories, I am so inspired by someone like Amaal, who finds purpose through the tragedies she has faced. Her words, “by helping others I helped myself”– resonated so much with me. We hope you will join us in supporting Sanad support displaced individuals, families, and children, in both Cairo and Gaza.

Hi Everyone, all of our wonderful donors and people visiting this page. I want to share our update from August, directly from Sanad. The $2000 USD that we sent to Sanad was able to help 40 families in Al-Nuseirat shelter camp in Central Gaza, along with other donations they received. Here are the direct words from Sanad:

“As part of our ongoing efforts to support the displacement camp in Al-Nuseirat (the capital), We have distributed cash assistance to an additional 40 families, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 90 out of 700 families currently residing in the camp. In light of the urgent need for this type of financial support, we renewed our promise to the camp management to continue doing everything in our power to reach as many families as possible and alleviate their suffering in these difficult conditions. This cash assistance provides families with dignity and the freedom to choose their own essential needs, according to their individual circumstances–rather than relying on pre-determined aid packages. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed, supported, and donated. With your generosity, we continue our mission. With your kindness, we bring relief and hope.”

Currently as I write this, our donations are at $3360. Our first round was $2000– once we reach $4000, I will send the next round (another $2000). We are $640 away from our goal. Second and third donations are so welcomed and greatly appreciated, and especially sharing widely with your network! Especially in light of recent events, the worsening of attacks in Gaza City, any contributions or shares are so appreciated.

Also HUGE shoutout to Francisco Rodriguez, our most generous donor so far! He made an unbelievably generous donation $500, totaling $600 in donations so far. Francisco, we are so absolutely grateful to you and your generosity.

Thank you to everyone who has been spreading the word and contributing– your donations are giving people a chance at survival. If you’d like to organize a small fundraiser locally and contribute the proceeds to our campaign, please reply to this email. Thank you and we’re wishing you a safe Labor Day if you’re in the U.S.!

Hi friends, Thank you all so very much to everyone who has donated! We launched this fundraiser on July 6. In 3 weeks, we raised $2095 from 31 donations. For us, this is a long game– we’re hoping to reach at least 10k, and will continue raising funds until we meet it. The need is endless, both in amount and in time. The damage done by the genocide on this population is irreparable, but we have the ability to try and give some a chance at survival. Our donations are going directly into Gaza to help families in Nuseirat shelter camp in central Gaza. There are at least 400 families who still need financial assistance and very, very urgent cases.

Please share this fundraiser widely with your network.. from our smallest donation ($20) to our largest ($400), every amount is helpful and appreciated!! Thank you especially to Melanie Cambron for our largest donation!!

I have attached the transfer receipts for transferring $2k. The remainder will be included in our 2nd round of donations. Thank you so much everyone… please continue sharing this fundraiser. Repeat donations are welcome, and if anyone would like to collaborate to host a fundraising effort of your own to contribute to this one, please do reach out to Rebecca.
