In one of the many once-peaceful neighborhoods of Gaza, Khitam lived a quiet life with her four children. Every morning was routine–she would wake her children Bilaal, Walaa, Maher and Maryam and prepare them for the day’s activities. Whether it was preparing breakfast for her children. combing little Maryam’s hair or tending to Bilal’s studies, Khitam always made herself available to support her children in any way she could. Life was difficult–but simple and full of the warmth of a loving family.

Then came October 7th.

Her home shook violently from the aftershock of explosions from every direction. Her home was reduced to rubble from the violent assault. With death raining down on her family from every direction, she was left with no choice but to run and take her children with her–abandoning everything about their once quiet, simple home life.

Nothing has been the same ever since. Every day is a struggle for even the most basic of necessities for survival. Khitam is tasked with finding clean, safe food and water, clothing, shelter and medicine, things we all need to survive. Things that no human should ever be deprived of.

Khitam has been taking care of her family her entire life, sparing no expense and no effort to assure that her children would live safe, healthy and happy lives. She is now in a place where she can’t do it on her own anymore. There is no work in Gaza, no aid coming in, and no other opportunities to provide for herself and her children. We are Khitam’s only and strongest support system.

Khitam does not want for luxury nor decorum, all she wants is to able to give her children some reprieve and comfort from the endless violence they have been battered and traumatized by since the war began. She hopes to meet her goal of escaping to Egypt with her family for an opportunity to not only survive..but to start livin again.
