Hello, my name is Haneen, and I am the eldest daughter in my family. My father was martyred when I was 11 years old, on 10/12/2005. It was the greatest shock of my life. I lost safety and affection after his death. I grew up as an orphan, with a grieving widowed mother.

During this cursed war, we were forced to leave our home and flee from the Jabalia refugee camp to Rafah. By some miracle, we made it there, then moved to Khan Yunis, and then to Deir al-Balah. We moved from place to place until we ended up here in this camp.

In this same war, my older brother, Mahmoud, was martyred on 5/12/2023. Mahmoud left behind three orphaned children. Now, I only have one surviving brother, Muhammad.

Muhammad suffers from Treacher Collins Syndrome and has congenital deformities since birth. He can’t breathe through his nose and has no sense of smell. He breathes only through his mouth and suffers greatly while sleeping due to breathing difficulties. He also has constant bad breath and chronic throat infections because he can’t close his mouth. He has no middle ear or ear canal, and his hearing is less than 40%. He struggles with speech as well. His teeth also need surgical intervention, as his jaw is small and his teeth are misaligned, causing him constant pain. He has deformities in his eyes and is unable to close them, which results in constant dryness, pain, and tearing.

Muhammad had a brain implant when he was younger in Egypt at Nasser Hospital, in an attempt to fit him with a hearing aid called “Baha.” Unfortunately, he experienced great pain from the implant, and the screw and hearing aid had to be removed. The implant still causes him pain in his head.

My mother is a sick woman, grieving the loss of my father, my brother, and all of our loved ones. She is struggling not only with the loss but also with her own health problems. For the past 20 years, she has been suffering from neurological issues, and she currently has diabetes, along with severe joint and nerve pain.

Our cat, Loza, also fled with us from northern Gaza to the south. Loza is an essential part of our family, but it’s very difficult to find food for her here as there is no cat food available.

As for me, Haneen, I am currently the sole provider for my family. I studied Information Technology and Communications and was working before the war. I was about to open a design office, but the war changed everything. I lost everything — my job, my laptop, and all my belongings. I’m constantly searching for work but haven’t been able to find any.

My family — my mother, my brother Muhammad, our cat Loza, and I — are living in a tent, enduring cold, heat, insects, hunger, pain, and loss. Everything here is painful.

We are in desperate need of medical care and support. I am doing everything I can to find help and am praying to Allah for guidance and assistance.
