My name is Lilli, and I’m running a campaign for my friend Reem and her family. We were connected through her younger siblings Maram and Tareq, who are a part of a cohort of IUG medical students for whom I have been organizing crowdfunding initiatives. About Reem and Her Family
Reem’s story is one of resilience and determination. As a passionate lover of books, languages, and different cultures, Reem was on the cusp of furthering her education with a master’s degree in English Literature when the assault on Gaza disrupted her life. She earned her degree in English Language & Teaching Methods from Al-Aqsa University and had been a hardworking freelance translator, supporting her family while pursuing her academic goals.
However, like many others in Gaza, Reem’s life took an abrupt turn when her home, which she and her husband had not yet fully paid off, was destroyed in the conflict. Now, she and her family are sheltering in a tent with her husband, two young children (Ibrahim, 7, and Rayan, 4), and her sister-in-law along with her three children (ages 6, 3, and 11 months). To make matters worse, Reem’s brother-in-law, her sister-in-law’s husband, was one of the thousands of men kidnapped by the Israeli army while fleeing the violence. This has left Reem’s family in a precarious situation, relying on the kindness of others to survive.
