My name is Ahmed Yahya Al-Maasoubi. I’m a father of two young children—Adam (5) and Lara (3)—and a husband to my beloved wife, Shamoa. We are a family torn apart by the war in Gaza.

Before the war, we lived a simple, peaceful life. I had a small business. We had our home. We had dreams. But war shattered everything. We lost our home, our livelihood, beloved family members, and our ability to be together.

In December 2024, our daughter Lara suddenly fell critically ill. She lost her sight, her ability to move, and began having seizures. Doctors feared a brain tumor. Medical care in Gaza was impossible, so she was urgently evacuated to Belgium, and my wife went with her.

Since then, I’ve been doing everyting I can to survive with my son, Adam, in Gaza.

Every day is a struggle. We have no stable shelter. I walk long, dangerous distances through areas of bombardment just to find a little food or water. What little is available in the markets is now shockingly expensive. Even bread and flour are luxuries. My son is sick too, but I cannot give him the care he needs. He asks about his mother and sister, and I can only hold him and pray for the day we are together again.

Thanks to great courage and persistence, my wife has now secured asylum in Belgium. That means we are finally eligible to apply for family reunification—the only legal way for Adam and me to leave Gaza and join them. But this process is long, complex, and uncertain. It could take months, or even longer.

Until then, we must survive here.

That’s why I’m asking for your help—not just to reunite with my family, but to stay alive until that day comes.

Your donation will help us:

Afford the very high cost of food, clean water, and basic necessities in Gaza

Cover essential legal and administrative costs of the reunification process

Support Lara’s ongoing medical treatment in Belgium

Help us build a new, safe life for our children once we are finally together again

This is the hardest time we have ever known. I’ve lost my sister, friends, my home. But I am holding onto hope—for the sake of my children, for my wife, and for the family we still dream of rebuilding.

Please, help us get through this.

Your support could be the reason we survive these months apart. Your generosity could be the reason Adam sees his mother and I can hug my daugther again. Every donation, every act of kindness, brings us closer.

From the depths of my heart—thank you. Ahmed Yahya Al-Maasoubi

The last few weeks have been a rollercoaster. We are slowly settling into a new life in Brussels, but there isn’t a moment when I’m not thinking of my husband and 5-year old son in Gaza. Now that I have registered for asylum in Belgium, I’m able to apply for unification so that Ahmed and Adam can join us here. The first step is getting them passports. We can have this done in Gaza, but the cost is high. I would very much appreciate your support to cover the $200 towards their new passports. Any additional funds raised will also be sent directly to them to cover their very high living costs in Gaza. Thank you for your continued support. May God bless your kind hearts.
