The Bahjat family—displaced by military violence and enduring unimaginable hardship—urgently needs support from caring individuals like you. Forced from their home on October 13, 2023, they are a family of eight, including their grandfather who cannot walk and requires medical attention. The family has limited resources to survive and rebuild and needs your help!

Their father, Professor Bahjat Hassouna, shares his story:

“My family has endured multiple displacements, leaving us without a permanent home. Recently, we took shelter in a damaged house with only two rooms remaining. I lost my mother, who passed due to lack of treatment and food, and I am now supporting a family without a source of income. Three of my children are pursuing medical education, but we cannot afford their university expenses. I am asking for your help to meet our basic needs and offer my children a chance to continue their dreams.”

Thanks to your generosity, we’ve made the goal of paying their cousins $300 hospital bill already this month, and now between this campaign and our gofundme we ALSO have collected $500 for a sack of flour. We will send this to Doaa’s family on the 1st after gofundme releases the funds.

This is a huge relief for their family—and it’s already bringing small moments of joy.

Doaa sent a list of chocolates she wants to have again after the blockade ends. In a time of man-made famine..she’s let in some hope. Our care is creating small bright moments in an otherwise heartbreaking time. None of this would be been possible without you.

Friends: our next small goal is $300

That would allow the Bahjat family to buy fresh food—like fruit and vegetables—for Mera. A single can of tomatoes costs about $80. Doaa told me Mera often seems too weak to play, and they really want to get her a little nutrition.

If 60 people gave $5 today, we’d reach that goal before I send the money for food and fuel on the 1st.

Dear contributors, you have shown up for this family in a huge way today. Between this and the go fund me account we met and exceeeded the $300 goal for the Bahjat family’s cousin. Her hospital bill is now covered! This is a huge relief for the family who want to support her in this extremely difficult time.

A message from Doaa, the eldest sister who is our contact for help:

“Covering my relative’s medical bill means a lot to me. It means that you are always by my side and don’t forget me and my family. I was carrying a lot of remorse that I was not able to help someone who has nothing for themselves. I felt responsible towards her and I was afraid that I would not be able to, but thanks to you I have become able. I am very grateful to everyone who contributed.”

I have more to tell you now. Doaa told me that bags of flour have reached the astronomical price of $500 each. If each of us give whatever we can today, we could make this small goal possible together as well.

I want to share Doaa’s words:

“My dear, with you by my side, I have become stronger, even after several days without eating even a single bite of bread. But here I am enduring it. The hunger and psychological pain are all temporary things that will end soon.”

When I asked if there were any food, fruit or vegetable that would bring her and Mera comfort this was her reply:

“Currently we only need bread to provide us with energy. We do not even see anything called fruit, and even obtaining vegetables is a luxury that we do not need. We need the minimum necessities of life that keep us alive, which is bread.”

We are making a huge difference in the lives of this family. If each of our 23 can add just $22—or share this post with one new friend who can—we’ll hit the $500 and put fresh bread on Doaa and Mera’s table this week. That will make this one of the biggest impacts of this entire campaign so far.
