Fedaa, her husband Hisham, and their children Ghena, Tayyam, and Lara, were displaced from their comfortable home in Gaza City for 15 months. Fedaa ran a business creating beautiful custom tatreez (traditional Palestinian embroidery) pieces, and her husband Hashem ran a supermarket. Since the most recent assault on Gaza, they have faced unimaginable circumstances through the lack of basic necessities, food, and medical care.

They are back in their home since January 2025, but suffer from malnutrition and severe deprivation. Fedaa gave birth to her fourth child, Fares, in August 2025. He was born severely underweight and needs access to formula so that he can gain weight and stay healthy.

My name is Evelyn; over the past year, I have gotten to know Fedaa and her family, and speak to her almost daily. Fedaa is working hard every day to keep her family together & safe, and the love and care she dedicates to her family is evident. Their ultimate goal is to be able to evacuate this war zone and begin their lives again.

It takes roughly $500/wk to survive in Gaza. Inflation of food prices is about 7,000% compared to before the invasion and siege. It is very difficult to find food and what is available is often prohibitively expensive. Our support allows Fedaa to buy what does become available in the markets to feed her family.

Fedaa successfully underwent her C-section surgery on Sunday, August 24, and gave birth to beautiful little baby Fares. He was born severely underweight (3.3lbs) and had to spend a bit of time in the NICU after his birth. Both mother and baby are now back home and doing well, but recovery is difficult for Fedaa as there are no painkillers available. To help get her strength back, Hisham bought her a fish from the market. A simple fish that would have cost less than $8 before the invasion now cost him $85.

Baby campaign update: we now have $205/mo in sustaining donors for Fares’ first year of life! Our goal is to get $500/mo so that at least his needs are taken care of each month. A pack of diapers costs $100+ and a can of formula costs $60+. Thank you all SO MUCH for stepping up, it has brought so much joy to my heart to be joined enthusiastically by everyone who has pledged to support this family. Our support truly is the difference between life and death. Ask your friends, family, and community if they can match your pledges! You are doing important work <3 <3 <3 Fedaa's C-section has been scheduled for this Sunday, August 24! The doctors are concerned about the increased pressure on Gaza city and possible displacement orders, and so decided to have Fedaa's birth this weekend. These are unthinkable conditions to be giving birth and undergoing surgery. Fedaa will have to walk the 2 kilometres to the hospital, and we are not sure how she will return home after the surgery, as there is no transportation available. She tells me that many people are discharged after only 6 hours in the hospital. We are up to $155/mo on this campaign! Can you make a monthly pledge and/or ask folks in your life to join us? I will update again as soon as we have news of the baby's arrival <3 It's time for us to gather and bestow blessings on Fedaa's baby, arriving this month! Fedaa must schedule a C-section and purchase formula and diapers. Due to the severe malnutrition she has been facing, the baby may require neonatal care upon his birth. It takes a village, as they say, and Fedaa needs us now! Join this loving remote family that we have built for Fedaa and her children, and let's support this new life in his first year on this difficult earth. Our goal is to achieve $500 per month in sustaining donors--and we are already $105 of the way there! Woo hoo! If you want to help but money is tight, there is much you can do to support this campaign! I have included information in the photos to empower you to ask your networks if they can support. People power is everything, and each ask makes a difference. Thank you for being here. Thank you for being a part of direct mutual aid that puts material support into the hands of those who need it. You are appreciated more than words can say. Masumi Hyodo
