Hello everyone, my name is Karigan. I am fundraising on behalf of a Deaf Palestinian family in Gaza that I first connected with in December of 2023. Since the Rafah crossing closed in May, the genocide in Gaza has become more dire. The siege has left them displaced and unable to afford or access basic necessities. They need our help to survive the long and harsh winter.
What will the money be used for?
To support the everyday needs of Moataz (32), Yasmeen (32) and their three children: Maria (7), Ahmed (5) and Abdullah (3). This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
Food, water, medicine, hygiene supplies
Clothes, blankets, shoes
Tent, tarp, building materials
Solar panels and battery
As well as any emergency requests they have. For example, in June of 2024 we were able to quickly replace their broken phone. Phones are an assistive device for Deaf people. It has helped Moataz and Yasmeen communicate since many people don’t understand sign language. It also provides light necessary for signing in the dark.
What are challenges they face as Deaf people in Gaza?
Information and healthcare is inaccessible. This is terrifying because not knowing what’s happening around them is a matter of life or death. It’s also difficult being sick because there are no sign language interpreters available. Moataz and Yasmeen are even more vulnerable during displacement because they can’t hear when danger is nearby. With your help we can ensure they aren’t left behind.
A message from the family:
Moataz: The situation is really tough and the prices are high. Now the cold is setting in and every day we need to buy food, water and find winter clothes. I don’t sleep. All night I think about my children’s future. Maria cries every day. She wants to go to school and learn. Ahmed and Abdullah also need to secure their futures.

Yasmeen: In the heart of Gaza, amid the echoes of war that most people heard, the world of my husband and I was shrouded in silence. We were born Deaf and we lived life differently from those around us. But our disability never dampened our vibrant spirit or the love we had for our family. They were our anchor in the sea of silence, communicating through the universal language of love and understanding. I hope you will help our family to go to safety and security. I hope you will help us get out of this fear and difficulties and bring goodness and go with my family to peace. I hope you will help, even if it is a little money, as this is too much for us. Thank you.
في قلب غزة، ووسط أصداء الحرب التي سمعها معظم الناس، وانا وزوجي الذي كان عالمنا يلفه الصمت. ولدنا أصم وابكم، وعاشنا الحياة بشكل مختلف عن من حوله، لكن إعاقتنا لم تضعف أبدًا روحنا النابضة بالحياة أو الحب الذي نكنه لعائلتنا لقد كانوا مرساة لنا في بحر الصمت، ويتواصلون معه من خلال لغة الحب والتفاهم العالمية .. اتمنى منكم أن تساعدوا عائلتنا للذهاب الي الأمان والسلامة اتمنى منكم مساعدتنا في الخروج من هذا الخوف والصعاب والخير والذهاب مع عائلتي الي السلام .. اتمنى منكم المساعدة حتى ولو بالقليل من المال فهذا الكثير علينا وشكرا لكم .

Palestinians are still being starved and what little aid comes in is not enough to meet the needs of the people. Thank God, despite the difficulties, the family was finally able to secure food which cost $258 (not including commission fees).
We never want Moataz or Yasmeen to risk their lives by going to an american “aid distribution” site. As Deaf parents, they are even more vulnerable in such dangerous areas. Because of you they are able to avoid this and can afford the high prices in markets when supplies are available.
