Help Evacuate the Shamia Family
United Kingdom
UPDATE [4/12/2024]:
First off, thank you so much to everyone has donated so far. We are very close to reaching our increased goal of £11,000, which would have covered evacuation fees for the entire Shamia family. However, due to the ever-worsening circumstances in Gaza, we are increasing the fundraising goal by another £8,000 – bringing it up now to £19,000.
So far, we have sent Ahmed $17,000, on top of the existing $10,000 they received from their previous fundraiser. As stated in the prior update, evacuation fees for the entire family are estimated at $27,500.
However, as living conditions have become more desperate in Gaza, Ahmed has had to spend $6000 of the money raised on basic amenities for daily survival. For context, it currently costs $30 to buy one orange, two bananas, one cucumber, and two apples in Gaza – food that has to feed all six members of the Shamia family.
Factoring this in, we are left with a shortfall of $5,500 needed to evacuate the family from Rafah. This is approximately £4,340. However, we have chosen to increase the fundraising goal by £8,000, to factor in potential increases to the evacuation fees, as well as some spending money for daily survival needs for the family.
Again, we want to thank you for your continued support for the Shamia family. We would also like to share this message directly from Ahmed:

UPDATE [24/7/2024]:
We are increasing the fundraising goal from £6000 to £11000.
The Shamia family were initially promised $14000 from a prior fundraiser, but have ended up with only $10000 due to tax deductions and remittance fees.
We have been able to send them $7500, including what has been raised here on Chuffed and funds raised in Malaysia. They need a total of $27500 to evacuate all five adults and one child in the family. Currently, they need to raise another $4181, or £3243.
We have also calculated that we will need to pay £1629 in taxes, thus the increase of £5000 to the fundraiser goal, to factor in the shortfall from the fundraiser, our tax commitments, and a small cushion to account for transfer and remittance fees.

Help evacuate the Shamia family from the Rafah war zone! Ahmed Shamia and his family are currently trapped in Rafah and have been displaced ten times since October 7th. They are under constant threat of attack by occupying forces and need an additional £6,000 to escape to a safe place in Egypt. Ahmed has already lost his oldest brother to the ongoing war and genocide in Gaza. Please help him and family evacuate!
