Hani is organising this fundraiser to support his family, especially his mom, who is unwell and in hospital. He used to work in his family’s carpentry business but it got bombed near the beginning of the war so he lost his income and his home.

Since losing his home, Hani has been living together with his family of 12, including 2 children, his baby nephew Wajeh, and his mom Randa, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2024. They’ve had to evacuate many times and are so exhausted.

As well as the everyday challenge of supporting a family of 12 after they lost their source of income, their main additional expenses are for baby supplies, and health items for Hani’s mom.

The cost of baby supplies has become really high – formula has doubled in price since the war started and diapers cost 4 times as much as before, and they always need to buy clothing, milk and diapers.

After waiting for a year, Hani’s mom has finally been evacuated to Egypt for cancer treatment – at Mansoura International Hospital. Her treatment is expected to last from 6 months to a year, so funds are needed to cover living expenses for Randa and 2 family members who are staying with her in Egypt to care for her. Because of her illness, Randa also needs vitamins, and has special dietary requirements, which are costly.

Hani’s overall fundraising goal is £55,250, which we calculated to include living expenses and the cost of evacuating the whole family, when the border crossing eventually reopens. Because of the high cost of living, they haven’t been able to save towards that goal yet but still hope to reach that target eventually.

Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference. Thank you for your support.

Any donations to this fundraiser will be a gift to Hani Almassry and his family and they’ll allocate the funds according to their needs as their circumstances change. Although the border is currently closed, they still plan to save for when it reopens so they can evacuate to safety.

UK Fundraising organiser:

Hi, I’m Sophie. I live in the UK and I’m helping my friend Hani Almassry to organise this fundraiser for his family, who are in Gaza. We’ve known each other for over a year and he’s told me a lot about his traumatic experience of losing his home and struggling to survive through the aggression.

I look after the fundraising page because it’s not possible to do so from within Palestine. I don’t make any deductions from the donations. The fundraising platform, Stripe and the e-transfer platform we use make small charges for service fees and currency exchange. I don’t hold onto large amounts of money, I just check the balance once a week and send the funds straight to Hani for his family. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
