We’re Mishwar, a small Scottish charity helping refugee communities in Lebanon. We’ve been around since 2015 doing all kinds of creative projects to support local communities – check us out at www.mishwar.org or on our social media.
Since 2019 the economy in Lebanon has been hit by one of the world’s worst crises in 170 years! Among other serious issues, including food and medicine shortages, education has been terribly disrupted with the majority of kids in our communities falling out of school completely. Illiteracy is a serious issue in the region of Akkar with the current generation projected to have almost double the illiteracy rate of previous ones.
We have some infrastructure in refugee camps, like small classrooms and IT equipment for teachers, we also have a team of motivated and skilled people on the ground. (check out our website or social media channels, Facebook / Instagram / YouTube to learn more about our team – we even have two documentary films you can watch) We managed to secure funding for school equipment and some training workshops – all we need from you is support to enable us to pay the teachers for the whole year. With 5 teachers being paid $200 per month, we need $1000 every month to make sure hundreds of kids can keep learning! We’ve secured about $4000 for this so far so the remaining $8000 we’re really hoping we can raise here with your help!
