Wakil* is a Hazara asylum-seeker in Australia. He finally got a bridging visa to live and work in Australia last year, after being detained on Christmas Island, Nauru and in Australia since 2013.

Wakil’s wife and children are still in Afghanistan. It is not safe for his children to attend school, or after-school activities. Hazaras are targeted by the Taliban, over 10 days in April alone there were 5 terrorist bombings against Hazara communities.

Wakil desperately wants to help his family to get out, and there is a way. But it’s expensive. Wakil is working as much as he can however this is limited by mental and physical problems that have developed as a result of the last decade of detention.

We want to raise AU$5000 to get visas and flight tickets for Wakil’s family to leave Afghanistan. We’re also aiming to raise an additional $10 000 to help them pay for accomodation in a nearby country for a year.

Anything you can contribute is going straight towards this family urgently seeking safety.

Thank you.
