We are Joy and Jamal, two of the refugees currently detained indefinitely in the Park Hotel, where Novak Djokovic was recently briefly detained.
Each of us has been granted refugee status. Each of us has been in detention for more than nine years. We do not know when our detention will end.
Recently one of our fellow detainees, known to the Court as Graeme Grant, was released from this torturous hotel thanks to the tireless work of the legal team at Human Rights for All. He was detained as a child and is free for the first time as an adult.
He now lives a happy life in Melbourne, a girlfriend and a future to look forward to.
This is what we dream of too.
Human Rights for All is a pro-bono human rights law firm that relies on volunteer support as well as donations from individuals and organisations who share the same passion for refugee rights.
They have worked tirelessly to free 66 refugees from detention. But we remain in the Park Hotel, and so do more than 30 others.
We are so scared that the world will soon forget us again. Please share our story and donate to our legal fund if you can, so that we can continue to fight for our freedom.
All money raised will go to funding our legal representation and those of others in detention. If we win in court, the money will be recycled for others. We know that running our cases will help others in detention, so the work supported by your donation helps everyone.
UPDATE: As most of you would know, we have now gained our freedom and the Park Hotel is closed as Alternative Place of Detention. However, there are still many of our fellow asylum seekers from Nauru who have been held in Australian detention now for NINE YEARS. They still need your help, which is why we are keeping this campaign running.
