Hi, my name is Yvonne, one of the co-founders of MORE, a migrant-led grassroots organisation in Glasgow. COP 26 delegates and the world will descend upon our city of Glasgow this November. Glasgow is one of the largest dispersal city in the United Kingdom and home to nearly seven thousand refugees and asylum seeking families and individuals who are disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis.

We are all aware that the climate crisis is fuelled by racism, capitalism, colonialism, and imperialism and makes many parts of the world mainly the Global South inhospitable for families, children and entire populations thereby causing climate driven migration and creating climate refugees who are yet to be given legal protection.

As refugees, we are acutely aware of the disproportionate intersectional impact of the climate crisis because this is our lived intergenerational reality. A few examples that spring to my mind is the lack of legal protection/recognition of climate refugees, mothers and babies cramped in prisonlike conditions in Mears and Home Office MBU in Glasgow, state enforced destitution and poverty on International Protection applicants who are unable to access employment, education and decent housing, thus making them vulnerable to modern day slavery, human trafficking and other forms of exploitations and on several occasions their untimely demise.

As a result, a few friends and I have embarked upon raising £30,000 to support individuals affected by the Home Office racist hostile environment policy through a series of sponsored cycling and swimming events and sending our own designed and screen-printed T-shirt to everyone who donates £30 or more to our Crowd Funder. Black Lives Matter is not just a slogan or hashtag for our community in Glasgow. It is fundamental to tangible local, national and global climate justice solutions which enables us to live ecologically sustainable lives free from racialised oppression as opposed to JUST NOT BEING KILLED!!!

Be under no illusion the climate crisis was created by the ruling class who are continually enriched at the expense of working-class communities locally, nationally and globally sadly our communities in Scotland are not exempted. It is in this spirit of oneness we kick start the Crowdfunder with a cycle from Glasgow to MOSSMORRAN petrochemical refinery the third largest polluter in Scotland as we stand together in our demand to SHUTDOWNMOSSMORRAN
