Can You Help Support A Young Refugee?

We have seen the images of people in boats all over the news. We have seen the fires raging in refugee camps in Europe.
We may know some things about the wars, conflict and the corruption young people have fled from. But do we know enough about young people’s lives when they are here in the UK?
Refugees in the UK face destitution, homelessness, isolation and an uncertain future. This year, Covid-19 and the UK’s immigration policies are causing extra hardship for some of the most hard hit young people in the world.
In response, the Hummingbird Refugee Project and our community of supporters, including young poeple with lived experience, have provided young people in need with specialist support, some of which has included financial support of up to £25 per week, for when a young person is going through hardship or crisis.
This fund also supports the well-being and safety needs of young people and has funded emergency accommodation, travel costs, phone credit, wifi as well as food parcels over the last few months alone.
With ever increasing hostility from government policies and the harsh impact of Covid-19, the number of young people in need of this support is rising. Due to this, the funding needed to young people has more than doubled since lockdown began in March.
Led by the incredible members of our community and the kindness and solidarity of individuals, we have been able to support young people fleeing war, conflict and oppression since 2015.
There are lots of ways to help us raise the money needed. We know that times are difficult for many right now so we will start with suggestions that won’t cost you anything.
If you are able to contribute:
We can’t do any of this work without you.
Thank you for believing in our work and doing all you can for young refugees.
Love always, Elaine xx
