has seen thousands of people flee war, climate castrophone and persecution. Tens of thousands of refugees have died in the Mediterranean, attempting to reach the shores of Europe. Those that make it to Europe face refugee camps, strict border controls and asylum policies, like the refugees in the North of France who are attempting to reach the UK.
have no right to work or claim benefits. While they are being sheltered in hotels staffed by volunteers, they have no money for transport or clothing. They face strict asylum procedures and are at increasing risk of deportation, even if this puts their lives at risk.
The people of Barking and Dagenham have a long history of standing up to racism and showing solidarity with refugees and all migrants. As part of this movement, we are collecting money to show solidarity and welcome refugees seeking shelter in our borough.
