Australia devastated Lila’s family, help her rebuild in the USA

The Australian government’s refugee policies devastated 22-year-old Lila’s family and robbed some of the most important years of her life – now, we have a chance to help her pick up the pieces and rebuild.
When Lila was a teenager, she fled persecution in Iran with her father and brother seeking a life of freedom and safety in Australia. Despite being verified as a genuine refugee, the three of them were unlawfully detained for years on the tiny, remote island of Nauru.
Now, Lila has been transferred to the United States — but her freedom has come at a terrible price. Her father remains stranded on Nauru and her brother has been transferred to an immigration detention center in Australia. Her mother and sister remain in Iran.
The Aussie-run Ads-Up Refugee Network is seeking to cover her basic expenses and to help give her a firm footing to recover and rebuild. Please chip in to help us repair the damage our government has inflicted >>
Lila spent six of the most important years of her life, between the ages of 16 and 22, detained by the Australian Government on Nauru.
While she should have been able to live freely as a normal teenager — building friendships, developing life skills and studying for the future — she was instead put through the trauma of indefinite detention and immigration limbo.
Now, Lila finds herself completely alone in the United States in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.
We have the chance to help.
Along with finding a job to support herself, Lila hopes to start and complete her high school diploma, and then go college, both of which she was not unable to complete in detention.
Chip in to support Lila to rebuild her life after six years in detention. Together, we can give her the support she deserves >>
Lila is an incredibly talented young woman in the arts. She has always enjoyed writing since starting school, and despite the many limitations of detention, Lila’s talent as a writer was not diminished, and she has published short stories in English.
She was also a skilled pianist and would love to start playing again.
The Aussie-run Ads-Up Refugee Network has created this fundraiser for Lila. Funds donated will be be deposited directly to Lila’s bank account daily, so she is able to use funds for her living expenses and potential education opportunities.
If you can, please chip in now to help give Lila a new start so she can pay rent, pay for school needs, food, and other essentials like repaying her flight costs from Nauru to America.
