Bakery equipment for Baan Unrak, Thailand
Adelaide, South Australia, Australia
Baan Unrak, translated from Thai as “House of Joy”, is a children’s home and community development project in Sangkhlaburi, Thailand, providing a loving home, food, medical care and education to over 130 children from Thailand, Burma including the neighbouring Mon and Karen States.
As part of Baan Unrak’s goal to be self-sustaining, they operate a bakery which sells all kinds of vegetarian meals and snacks. The bakery is not only a means to generate revenue; it is also a way of providing work for some of the many Burmese people in the area who have fled their homeland to the Thai border area in search of work. It also functions as an occupational training centre where some of the older children can gain valuable experience learning about the service industry.

A lot of the Bakery’s equipment is old and breaks down frequently, impacting on their production of cakes and other food items – which in turn affects their income.
The Wilai Foundation Ltd. offers support to Baan Unrak and the many orphaned and stateless children living there, through fundraising and educational scholarships.
Through your generosity, our last campaign raised $2,600, and in October 2018 we were able to supply fans, baking trays, a blender, rice cooker and much more for the bakery on your behalf.
Members of the Wilai Foundation team will spend time at Baan Unrak in February 2019 – hopefully transporting many more much-needed items to the Bakery!
We need $2,000 to purchase and deliver a new pizza oven, trays and serving utensils such as cutlery, plates and display holders for the Cafe. Can you assist us to make this happen?
