Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom

X is a 5 year old who was born and brought up in Swansea, Wales. She is a lively, bright girl and enjoys school.

At Risk of homelessness, deportation, being moved away from the city she calls home.

X was born in the UK to Sri Lankan parents, She has never been out of the country. X and her parents do not have leave to remain in the Uk. Her parents have no right to work and cannot access benefits. They exist on a small grant and are constantly fearful that they will be refused leave to remain and may be deported or made destitute

X is eligible to register as a British Citizen. This registration will mean a lot to the family. It will mean that whatever happens she cannot be sent to Sri Lanka- a country she has never been to and knows little about.

It will allow her to participate more fully in the life of her local community as she grows up. British citizenship to her is about identity, integration, sense of belonging, confirmation that this is her home, that she has the same rights and is part of her peer group. British citizenship also means that she has all the advantages of citizenship, including the right to remain in Britain, the right to a British passport, employment, health services and other social benefits.

Without Citizenship her parents worry she and they will face deportation or destitution.

There is no fee waiver for the application to register a child as a British citizen. The Home Office makes no exceptions for those who cannot afford to pay. The cost of this is cripplingly high: £973. The Home Office itself admits that the actual cost of registration is only £272, meaning the rest acts purely as a deterrent. X, like many other children in the UK, is being priced out of her rights by the UK government.

X and her parents have no one they can ask for the money. If X has citizenship, her parents would be able to make an immigration application. This might mean they could work in the near future and both are skilled people who could help the community that they live in.

That’s why we need your help.

We really do need your help. Donating to this cause will help X to secure British Citizenship which will secure her future and dramatically change her and her parents lives. Without it they may face destitution or deportation or at the very least continued anxious life in limbo.
