July 2017 Update – Our sponsors are approved and we continue to fundraise while we wait for the family to be processed in Lebanon by the Canadian government. We are getting close to our fundraising goal and we really appreciate your help with the final funsraising push!
We are also pleased to report that a new member was welcomed into the family recently. We have amended our fundraising goal and are very happy to include this new little person in our welcome!
Update (30 August 2016): Our group has decided to sponsor the family of 6 (2 parents and 4 kids). They have been in Lebanon for 5 years and will be very happy to have an opportunity to start a stable life again! We met their local relatives, who live in Coquitlam, and are really excited to be working with them. I have updated the monetary figures on this page to reflect the TOTAL goal, rather than the earlier campaign goal, so that it is easier for you to monitor our progress with respect to the overall goal. Thank you for your support in this incredible journey!
Update (17 August 2016): Thank you so very much for your donations! We have raised an incredible amount in one week ($6,620), and today we will decide as a sponsorship team whether we can take the leap of faith required to sponsor the family of 6, or whether we will sponsor a family of 4. Either way, we are still in need of many more funds and are so grateful for you taking the time to visit this page. We encourage you to generously contribute and to share this with others as we have been given this incredible opportunity to make a huge difference! We have been given the incredible opportunity to welcome a Syrian refugee family to Canada. We plan to sponsor a family of 4, but as a community, we may be able to rally enough support by next week to sponsor a larger family!
If we raise $15,000 by 17 August 2016, we will be able to sponsor a family of 6. They are a Syrian family, currently in Lebanon, consisting of a 39 year old father, 31 year old mother, three daughters aged 6, 9 and 12, and a 2 year old son.
If we raise $40,000 by 17 August 2016, we will be able to sponsor the family of 9. They are a Syrian family, currently in Turkey. The father, 51 years old, lost his eyesight due to the fighting in Syria. We would also be welcoming a 40 year old mother; five girls aged 3, 12, 16, 19, and 24; and two teenage boys aged 14 and 15. They have relatives in Greater Vancouver who would be our partners in the project and help them to settle and succeed here.
Can I get a tax receipt? If you want a tax receipt, DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR PAYMENT HERE! Instead, shoot me an email at [email protected] and I’ll send you deposit instructions. Please email me the amount so that your contribution will factor into this important decision, and so that we can update this page.
