From University Dreams to the Nightmare of War

My name is Yasser Hammad Al-Akhras , a 20-year-old Palestinian from Rafah.

I had just finished high school and was planning to enroll in university, like any other young person my age…

But the war stole everything from me.

The War Turned Our Lives Upside Down

When the war began, our home was completely destroyed.

My family and I fled with nothing but a few pieces of clothing.

My dream vanished overnight, replaced by pain that never ends.

Now, we are living in Jerusalem School, near Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, with no shelter, no privacy, and no safety.

A Family of 9, Trapped in the Midst of Pain

Including 3 children

We all live in one small room, with no electricity, insufficient food, and no basic necessities of life.

Each One of Us Suffering in a Different Way:

My father is a chronic diabetic and hypertensive patient. He suffered an injury to his left leg and suffers from it a lot. He needs a wheelchair.

My brother was injured In the war, his left hand was injured and he was the breadwinner for my family. Now he is unable to work and has lost his source of income.

‍⚕️ As for me, I I lost my left eye in the war and I can no longer see with it. I need treatment and the treatment costs are very expensive.

No Food… No Medicine… No Income… No Clear Hope

We have no source of income.

No jobs.

No flour for bread.

We cook with firewood when we can find it.

We live on limited aid from soup kitchens, but it’s not enough.

Our home in Rafah was destroyed, and we couldn’t save anything.

What We Need:

All we ask for is the bare minimum of life:

Shelter, food, and medicine.

We just want to keep my my father alive, maintain our dignity, and survive.
