I’m Janelle from Phoenix, Arizona, and I am raising funds for my friend, Tarek, and his family in Gaza. They are facing unimaginable hardship after losing their home, livelihood, and access to basic necessities due to the ongoing bombardment.

Below is a message from Tarek about his current situation.

I am Tarek, a father of four children:

Mohammad (13 years old) Muneer (11 years old) – suffers from a hole in the heart Aseel (9 years old) Ameer (3 years old)

We used to live a simple but dignified life in Khan Younis, where I owned a small supermarket that supported my family and provided for our basic needs.

Then the war came… and changed everything. We were forcibly displaced… from our home to a tent.

We were displaced multiple times: from Khan Younis to Rafah, then back to Khan Younis, and finally to the Al-Mawasi area in Rafah, where we now live in a tent I had to borrow money to buy — and I still cannot repay the debt. It’s not a tent for living… it’s a shadow of survival. Cold at night, scorching during the day, offering no real protection for my children.

My son is sick and has no treatment. Muneer, my 11-year-old, suffers from a hole in his heart, and I cannot afford even the most basic medical care for him. No medicine, no proper food, no hospital we can reach.

No income… no food… not even diapers

Since my supermarket was destroyed, I have had no source of income. I cannot buy food, milk, or diapers. I cannot provide a bite to stop Ameer’s cries, or medicine to ease Muneer’s pain.

I never asked for anything… but now I have no choice.

All I want is to protect my children from hunger, illness, and the cold. All I want is to repay the cost of the tent that shelters us.
