My name is Esther Lemsom, a citizen of the Netherlands, and I am raising funds to support Shadi’s family, with whom I have daily contact. All funds raised through this fundraiser will be used to purchase essential supplies for the family’s children and will be sent to Shadi via Western Union or PayPal.

My name is Shadi, and I live in Gaza with my wife Wafaa and our six children. We are a family struggling to survive amidst unimaginable hardships.

Three of my children — Abdul Hafeez (15), Batoul (14), and Layan (11) — face severe health challenges, including cerebral palsy and nerve spasms caused by hyperglycaemia. They urgently need specialised medical treatment outside of Gaza, but despite being on the evacuation list, we have not received permission to travel. Without connections or resources, we remain trapped, watching our children’s health deteriorate day by day. My other daughter Razan suffers from autism and has hearing and vision problems.

The ongoing war has pushed my family to the brink. Food, water, nappies, and medicine have become unaffordable due to skyrocketing prices and the complete loss of income. There are days when I cannot buy food for my children, leaving them so desperate that they resort to eating their own faeces. Their mouths are dry and they have sores from not being washed due to a lack of water and soap. My wife and I are emotionally and physically exhausted, yet we cling to the hope of giving our children a chance at a decent and happy life.

We have been displaced from Northern Gaza and have had to shelter our disabled children in an enclosed police booth that was bombed before our arrival, to keep them from wandering off. We fear the walls may collapse, but there is nowhere else we can bring our family in relative safety.

I am appealing to you — kind-hearted people around the world — to help us. Please look at my children with compassion. Imagine what you would do if you were in my position, watching your children suffer without any way to ease their pain.

Drie van mijn kinderen – Abdul Hafeez (15), Batoul (14) en Layan (11) – kampen met ernstige gezondheidsproblemen, waaronder cerebrale parese en zenuwstuipen veroorzaakt door een te hoge bloedsuikerspiegel. Zonder connecties of financiële middelen zitten we vast in Gaza en zien we de gezondheid van onze kinderen met de dag achteruitgaan. Onze andere dochter Razan heeft autisme en kampt daarnaast met problemen met haar gehoor en zicht.

De voortdurende oorlog heeft ons gezin tot het uiterste gedreven. Voedsel, water, luiers en medicijnen zijn door de torenhoge prijzen en het volledig wegvallen van inkomsten onbetaalbaar geworden. Er zijn dagen waarop ik geen eten voor mijn kinderen kan kopen, waardoor zij zo wanhopig worden dat ze hun eigen ontlasting eten. Hun mond is droog en ze hebben wonden omdat ze zich, door een gebrek aan water en zeep, niet kunnen wassen. Mijn vrouw en ik zijn emotioneel en lichamelijk uitgeput, maar we blijven hopen dat we onze kinderen toch nog een kans kunnen geven op een waardig en gelukkig leven.

We zijn verdreven uit Noord-Gaza en hebben onze gehandicapte kinderen noodgedwongen ondergebracht in een afgesloten politiewachthuisje dat al gebombardeerd was voordat wij er kwamen. We doen dit om te voorkomen dat de kinderen zullen weglopen. We zijn bang dat de muren instorten, maar er is geen andere plek waar we ons gezin relatief veilig kunnen onderbrengen.

Ik richt mij tot u – mensen met compassie, overal ter wereld – om ons te helpen. Kijk alsjeblieft met mededogen naar mijn kinderen. Stel je voor wat je zou doen als je in mijn schoenen stond, terwijl je machteloos moet toezien hoe je kinderen lijden, zonder dat je hun pijn kunt verlichten.

Jullie donaties kunnen ons voorzien van wat we nodig hebben om te overleven: voedsel, kleding, luiers, medische hulpmiddelen en een sprankje hoop. Overweeg alstublieft om ons te steunen. Luckily, besides donations via Chuffed, I have received a total of 515 euros for Shadi and Wafaa and their children. They bought food, diapers and soap. They have asked camp management to move to another room (still in a bombed building). Shadi started to prepare the room to make it safe for his sick children. Shadi: “I want to tell you something. I am supposed to put something like a sponge on the walls in the room because my daughter Batoul and my son Abdul Hafeez are hitting their heads against the wall and they are bleeding from their noses and mouths and the back of their heads is very soft from hitting against the wall.” He needs quite some money to make the room livable for his kids.
