Bhakanje is a small Nepalese village nestled in the Himalayas – its rural location and topographical barriers make it immensely difficult for villagers to access any form of healthcare. In fact, some have never seen a doctor or dentist in their life and the nearest hospital is a 7 hour hike away.

Our short-term goals are to provide medical aid to the village of Bhakanje and send medical equipment and supplies to support the area. To do this, we are working alongside the Himalayan Guge Organisation, a Kathmandu-based NGO, who have close ties to the community.

TeamMED has worked each year to support regions in Nepal. In 2017, the long-term goal of establishing a permanent working clinic in the rural town of Bigu was achieved. Moving forward, we hope to establish a similar permanent health post and birthing centre in Bhakanje, enhancing the village’s capacity to sustain and support itself.

Our goal this year is to reduce the challenges patients encounter in accessing specialist treatment and diagnostic tests, often hindered by expenses and travel time. Additionally, we plan to allocate resources for transporting patients to nearby surgical hospitals for day procedures and arranging follow-up care, including providing post-operative medications. Additionally, we wish to collaborate with the government of Bhakanje to fund an ambulance jeep for the region – costing ~AUD$19,000, transporting patients for further care.

Your donations and efforts in spreading awareness about our cause enable us to procure essential supplies, medications, and sustain the employment of a permanent doctor in Bhakanje. We are entirely self-funded on this journey.

We aim to be financially transparent.

In 2024, we raised $13,258: $7408 was used for medications, supplies & equipment $2682 was used to pay doctors and for jeep transportation of medical supplies The other two-thirds was self-funded by the volunteers.
