Meet Veronica Ongachi, a strong woman living through unthinkable pain in GABON.

Veronica suffers from a mysterious, painful skin condition. Her body is covered in growths—one enormous one on her back that weighs her down, and another on her face that pulls her eye shut. Every day is a battle—not just with the pain, but with rejection, judgment, and shame.

People fear her. No one wants to be near her. She’s lost job after job because of how she looks. Years ago, she worked in someone’s home for 7 years without pay—only to be threatened and kicked out into the cold with her children. That night, her family slept by the roadside, hungry and homeless.

But Veronica never gave up.

Her husband, Enock, stands beside her, saying: “She’s my wife. I love her, and I’ll never leave her.” Their love has withstood the test of poverty, disease, and humiliation. Yet now, their little boy is starting to show the same growths. The fear in Enock’s eyes says it all.

Veronica dreams of healing. Of simply waking up without pain. But she can’t even afford a bus fare to the hospital. She comes from a poor home, and after her father passed away in 2019, her elderly mother was left helpless.

She looked at us with tears in her eyes and said, “I’d rather be poor but healthy.”
