Hi, I’m Melissa, writing from Philadelphia in the U.S. I’m raising money for my friend Ramy Nassar in Gaza. All donations will be sent via bank transfer or other secure method. Receipts are always available.

Here is Ramy’s story, in his own words:

“I am Ramy, 26 years old, from Gaza. I got injured in my hand in this war. I lost my home. I lost all my family members in this war, and all I have left is my little brother Mohammed. We have escaped death many times and lost everything. Life here is very harsh, where there is no food or shelter. There are no necessities of life. I want your help in taking care of my little brother, please.”

Ramy lost both of his parents and four siblings in an airstrike. He is now the sole guardian of his 14-year-old brother, Mohammed, while still grieving an unimaginable loss. They are doing everything they can to survive under siege, where for over 70 days no food, no aid, no supplies have been allowed in—and this comes after more than a year and a half of relentless bombing, starvation, and displacement. This is a holocaust.

At just 23, Ramy proudly opened a small gaming lounge—a kind of modern-day arcade where teens and kids from his neighborhood could gather, play, and find a bit of joy. It was a dream come true for him, owning his own business at such a young age. That space, like his home, is now gone, destroyed by the occupation.

He was talking about his mother the other day. She was well known and deeply loved in their neighborhood. Of course, he misses all of his family, but his voice caught when he mentioned her. The grief is never-ending—and yet every day, he fights to protect and provide for his little brother.

They have nothing now— meager shelter, no food, no clean water. Just each other.

Please share and give what you can. Every donation helps them survive.

Thank you, always, for your continued support. Your generosity is the reason Ramy and Mohammed are still eating at all. They truly couldn’t survive without it.

Things in Gaza are worse than ever. Every day, food becomes harder to find, and when it does exist, the prices are nearly impossible. They’re down to one meal a day—just enough to keep going.

Ramy wrote this today:

“After more than 4 months of famine that we are living in Gaza, two days ago everything was sold out in the market and there were only some vegetables left. We could not buy them because their price was crazy — it is the only food available in Gaza. I am talking to you today and we are in the worst days we have experienced in this war and famine. Mohammed and I have lost more than 15 kilos (33 pounds) each, and our bodies have become like skeletons. I really hope that you support us so that we can buy food and try to stay alive. Thank you.”

Even while they’re starving and exhausted, Ramy continues to show up for others. With the help of your donations, he was able to procure a second water truck to help his neighborhood access clean water—at great personal risk. It takes enormous effort to keep it going, and those who provide essential services in Gaza often become targets. Yet he keeps doing it, quietly, humbly, for his community.

If you’d like to support the water truck project directly, you can do so here: buymeacoffee.com/mortars. You can also see the water truck in action on his Instagram: @ramy.nassar99.

Ramy has also experienced unbearable loss. He’s lost his parents and siblings, and also cousins and friends— this is a regular occurrence now. He and Mohammed narrowly avoided being killed themselves—again—just today. Last week, Ramy witnessed a massacre. Today, another. He saw someone cut in half. Dozens of bodies. The grief, the fear, the trauma—there are no words for it. And yet this horror has become routine in Gaza.

When he tells me what he’s seen, I never know what to say. Nothing feels adequate. I just know we must never let this become normal. We cannot look away. And we cannot let them starve while the world stalls and forgets.

Thank you again to every one of you who has donated or shared. Your support means everything. As ceasefire talks collapse and the siege continues, your help is more critical than ever. We are just trying to keep them alive.

This is our first update, and we want to start by thanking everyone who’s supported Ramy and his little brother Mohammed. Last month, Ramy went to one of the so-called ‘aid’ sites—a place where tens of thousands of desperate young men risk their lives trying to bring food home to their families. Bullets flew overhead. He watched people get martyred right in front of him. He posted a terrifying video of what happened—but still returned home with nothing.

Thanks to your donations, he hasn’t had to go back. But the need hasn’t gone away. Ramy doesn’t go into detail about how bad things really are, but he’s exhausted. He and Mohammed are surviving on one meal a day. Both have lost weight and are constantly fatigued and lightheaded. They recently lost a cousin—just 21—who was martyred, and it’s been a heavy blow. Through it all, Ramy is doing everything he can to care for Mohammed, because they’re all that’s left. Their parents and siblings are gone. It’s just the two of them now.

Still, Ramy hasn’t stopped thinking of others. Last week, he helped coordinate a water truck for his neighborhood—an area that’s been badly neglected. You can see the video on his Instagram (@ramy.nassar99), and if you’d like to support that effort too, the link is in his bio.

If you’re able to donate or share this fundraiser, it truly helps them survive. And if you have any questions, you can reach me anytime at @mmortars_. Thank you for continuing to care.
