I first spotted Gino across the county road near our farm in New Mexico. I assumed he was my neighbors’ new dog. What a fine and noble creature I thought!

It took me a while to befriend her as he’s very sensitive.he started visiting our farm and hanging out with the 3 stray dogs that drifted to the farm over the past year and that I adopted.

One day, he stayed overnight in my tool shed so I called my neighbor to tell him his dog was at our place but that I was not feeding him. He said that it was not his dog, that he was hanging near his house all the time.

I then realized that when I was seeing him walk alone along the irrigation ditches,he was looking for food, digging up bones and dead animals, and that for months,he had been fending for herself.

I already have too many dog but I had already fallen in love with him.Truly the most gentle and refine dog I have ever met. I started feeding her. He was immediately adopted by the pack.He was eating well for about a week and then he stopped eating (I cook my dog organic rice with eggs, butter and vegetables)

I thought he had worms so I tried to give him over-the-counter worm medication but he wouldn’t touch the food.He started loosing weight quickly and slept most of the time. He would occasionally walk to the river with me and the dogs but did not have much energy.

After 10 days, I decided to seek medical help and had to go to Santa Fe, 90 miles away because the closest shelter in Las Vegas, NM, was beyond capacity.

After running tests, the vet found that he had a virus brought in by ticks. Further x-rays revealed an intestinal occlusion.

I never thought so many dogs would gravitate to our farm and make it their home.

They’ve touched my heart deeply and teach me much about love, loyalty, forgiveness and fun on a daily basis.
