My name is Mostafa Kareem Alathamna, a 29-years-old Palestinian man, married and eagerly awaiting the arrival of my first child. I have always believed that education and work are the path to salvation, so I devoted my life years to studying at the College of Pharmacy, dreaming of being a ray of hope for my family and community in Gaza.

But Gaza, with its heart beating with life despite the siege and oppression, carries on its shoulders pains that no one can describe. I was one of those who lived these tragedies in all their details.

Despite all that, I did not let circumstances prevail over me. With my determination and thanks to God, I was able to build a two-story house, a house that I saw as a fortress for me and my family, and I opened a large pharmacy, which was like a dream that became reality. I saw my pharmacy as a place to serve people, and I believed that I could, even in a simple way, alleviate their suffering.

But the last war came like a storm that uprooted everything. I returned to northern Gaza after the bombing ended, and my tears choked me before I saw what had happened to my house and my pharmacy. Before my eyes, I saw my dreams that I had built over the years turning into rubble. The house that had embraced me and my family, nothing remained of it but silent ruins. The pharmacy where I saw my life’s mission, was completely destroyed, as if the war had not even left me with memories.

I cannot describe the extent of the pain I felt. To stand before your destroyed dream, to see the fatigue of years erased in a single moment, is an unbearable feeling. But what is more difficult than that is to feel helpless, to find yourself starting from scratch again, at a time when you need to be the support for your family and your future daughter.

Gaza is not just a city suffering under siege, but a soul fighting death to stay alive. And here I am today, raising my voice and writing my story, not to beg for pity, but to ask for support from everyone who has an ounce of humanity in their heart. But I believe that every hand that extends in giving can make a difference. My message is a message of hope. I need someone to help me rebuild my home that was once a shelter for my family, and my pharmacy that was my source of livelihood and service to people. These are not just individual dreams, but an attempt to restore human dignity and a decent life, amidst the destruction that has befallen Gaza. I believe that goodness never dies, and that giving can rebuild what war has destroyed. To everyone who reads my words, I ask you to stand with me in my ordeal, to prove together that the will to live is stronger than any destruction.
