It has become clear that Sonya needs very specialized care to safely taper off the many drugs she’s taking. This cannot be done from an adult foster home, assisted living, conventional addiction center, or her home.

We found a very unique and highly specialized treatment center in Arizona, the only one in the US which understands the intricacies of safely titrating (tapering) off Level 1 substances. Link below.

The Alternative to Med Center (ATMC) uses a myriad of comprehensive means to help taper people off of dangerous addictive drugs that other programs aren’t equipped to offer. ATMC is connected to area hospitals, doctors, and psychiatrists for support if needed. The goals are for treatment to be as comprehensive and healing as possible.

Sonya has been continuously mis-prescribed dangerous, unnecessary psychotripic drugs, painfully difficult to get off of.There are very few qualified healthcare professionals who understand the complexities of this the way ATMC does.

Please consider donating again for Sonya. Sadly, she was mis-prescribed drugs based on mis-diagnoses. ATMC is a private pay facility, meaning no insurance coverage.

So far, none of the initial $10K in contributions to Sonya from many generous and kind-hearted people has been spent. We will add it to whatever else we can raise to get her to ATMC as soon as possible. The cost is $33K per month.

Seeing a good friend, age 67, suffer and decline for nearly two years after a brain injury in January 2023 has been heartbreaking. Sonya is a historian, teacher, anti-war activist, and extremely caring person who loves her grandchildren.

Some friends and I are asking you to contribute to the specialized health care that is critical for Sonya’s recovery, to literally regain her life. This comprehensive specialty care is not covered by insurance.

To put it bluntly, our medical system is not up to adequately caring for her. The doctors she’s seen in the many ‘care’ facilities to which she’s been sent have severely over-medicated her, making her condition worse and worse. Now she’s facing the challenge of a lifetime: safely tapering off the medications so that she can walk, function, and live independently again. This is easier said than done.

The medications are having dangerously negative effects on her physical and mental health, and tapering them requires care from specialist physicians and other health professionals. No health insurance covers the kind of comprehensive care she needs to save her from the debilitating effects of these medications that were wrongly prescribed by facility doctors in the first place.

We’re asking for your support in any amount to allow Sonya to continue her specialty care for tapering at this critical juncture. One-time donations are welcome, and also if you can offer a monthly donation that would be even better. This will help see her through until the end of the tapering process.
