I want to support Maria who has lived through and survived years of domestic violence. Today, she lives a new life, mostly free from her abuser and she has dedicated her time to fighting for women who are still suffering or have survived abuse.

Let`s sponsor a part of Maria´s livelyhood, her ideas and efforts to make a real change whitin how abuse victims are met and treated when seeking help. Your donation will fulfil a better outcome for these people.

Proceed reading to better understand how the situation are for Maria, other abuse victims and to learn about Maria´s achievement so far.

As a Swedish citizen, the level of support you receive depends on where you live within the social welfare system. The support one might receive varies from no assistance at all to trauma and PTSD treatment, assistance in leaving, finding new accommodation, economic support, and employment opportunities. All of this depends on your municipality and home address.

My friend Maria lives in a no help area. Due to her past experience of violence and beeing retraumatized by the lack of an assistance from the social wellfare, her brain is in a constant fight-or-flight mode and the body keeps the score. This makes everydays life rutines a hardship. It’s been a few years since she left her ex husband but the violence has left it’s mark on her and livelyhood is now a challenge.

A different approach

As time passed in her former relationship Maria reached out to therapists, psychologists, friends and family seeking someone that could assist her in correcting what was wrong in her marriage. This was no easy task. The few who tried – failed. In all that was going on Maria endured and came to understand that something new was needed—a different approach.

An idea took shape that victims of domestic violence had the need for assistance in coordinating their difficulties and various contacts with social welfare and relevant authorities. Over the past year Maria has collaborated with a muncipality larger than the one she lives in. Together they have developed a plan for a cooperative house that will be established to serve and help families suffering from domestic violence.

Off and on stricken by symptoms of trauma Maria gets up again and never backs down. She really needs our help with her livelihood, her trauma symptoms make it difficult to cope in a normal work setting. Let’s recorgnize her efforts and show her the appreciation she deserves. By doing so we empower her to continue her chosen path of finding new more adequate ways to aid the vicims of domestic violence and allow her, as well as them to heal from trauma and begin living again.

As a victim of psychological violence in my past and when I was younger in many occasions where alcohol was consumed around me I felt the same. I wished someone could tell me it wasn’t a healthy life for me. Years later I still can sense the bumb in belly when people around me are drunk. My Samaritan voice tells me you have to stay sober if something happens.
