Hello, my name is Niveen. I’m a creative and part-time healthcare worker living on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung People of the Kulin Nation.

I have started this fundraiser to support my partner, Ella, who is hoping to undergo some long-awaited and much anticipated gender affirmation surgery next April.

I am reaching out to you in order to help someone who has dedicated their life and career to helping others.

Ella owns Pony Club Gym, and if you know anything about that space, it exists to provide space to, and uplift community.

Ella has fought to build and keep this space alive over 17 months of closure as a brand new small business, due to the Covid-19 lockdowns, including using part of their superannuation. There have been many financial setbacks which have resulted in Ella still being unable to take a wage with the business going into its 5th year this December.

In spite of this, Ella has worked tirelessly to support others – from funding education to raising money for fringe and minority groups – people who fall through the cracks of government aid have all found solace, care and financial support through Ella and the gym.

Through knowing them well, Ella’s last priority is themself, and rarely do they get the things they need. Ella has experienced gender and body dysphoria on a regular basis since childhood.

Their time is now.

As many of us in the Queer community are aware, these procedures, although classified as “medically necessary” by the Drs involved, are not government subsidised.

This practice we have as a community to crowdfund is an act of radical love and one that both Ella and myself have contributed to countless times.

In these instances, all we have is each other.

For transparency, here is a breakdown of costs;

Surgeons fee: $12000

Surgeon’s assistant fee: $700

Anaesthetists fee: $1750

Hospital stay [1 day only ]: $5610

Wages to cover staff to keep the gym open during recovery time where Ella won’t be able to work [ 6 weeks ]: $9360

Ella is very happy to answer any questions you may have regarding this fundraiser.

It’s a difficult time to ask for money.

I know people are doing it tough and there are so many very important places to be sending any spare cash you happen to have.

Any contribution would mean the world and would make Ella one step closer to being in a body that is far more aligned with how they feel. And if contributing financially isn’t possible, sharing and spreading the word would also be of great help.

We knew it was a difficult time to ask for money but we have been absolutely mind-blown with the response – it’s been beyond anything I could have ever imagined. The love and care of community is truly such a salve in a world that feels hostile towards Trans and Gender diverse people. Ella’s surgery has been postponed until June so that we can utilise health insurance to cover the hospital costs.
