Did you know that there are no 24/7 overdose prevention sites that serve all genders operating in Vancouver?

SisterSpace operates a 24/7 OPS for women Molson OPS operates a 24/7 site for 3 days during cheque week

Drug use doesn’t have opening/closing hours. People use at all hours of the day – and many folks seek respite in the evening when they aren’t subject to street sweeps and trying to protect their personal property from being thrown in the trash. During heatwaves and heat domes in the DTES, many people start their day at night, when things are cooler.

The latest stats from the BC Coroners Service demonstrate the severity of the poisoned drug supply in BC – 6.1 deaths, per day. 363 deaths have occurred in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, with the Downtown Eastside leading with the highest death rate in this area.

In response to the continuous & deliberate decisions of health and policy decision-makers, the Coalition of Peers Dismantling the Drug War took matters into their own hands and opened up an overnight Overdose Prevention Site (OPS) at Pigeon Park.

The CPDDW OPS TENT has been open for over a month, operating from 12 AM – 7 AM every night. They support injection & inhalation safe consumption – with the motto Keep Safe & Don’t Use Alone.

The OPS is peer-run, operated by people with lived/living experience who have extensive knowledge in overdose response & peer witnessing.

Unfortunately, they have not received expected support from Vancouver Coastal Health at this time, and they are cobbling together funds from other grants to run the OPS. CPDDW needs funds for insurance & health authority funding.

Your support will enable CPDDW to:

Create a Safe Overnight Space when most OPS sites are closed Promote Safe Consumption Practices based on extensive knowledge of overdose response work Compensate Peers a livable wage, recognizing overnight shifts take a toll on their health

Defund 604 Network is supporting this fundraiser due to the incredible efforts of the Coalition of Peers Dismantling the Drug War. These folks show up regardless of the weather – with heat kits in the winter, cool kits in the summer, and harm reduction all year long!
