My name is Miłosz and I am a 12 year old boy from Poland. I am happy and cheerful most of the time, but I have lots of difficulties due to my special needs.

I was born with a posterior meningocele – a rare form of spina bifida. Immediately after my birth I went through multiple surgeries for hernia closure and ventricular-peritoneal valve implantation. I was diagnosed with myelomeningocele of the lumbosacral spine, insufficiency of the leading lower extremities, hydrocephalus, and neurogenic bladder.

In 2010 I was diagnosed with a holistic developmental disorder – childhood autism.

In 2015 I underwent surgery to remove my spinal cord, and then in July 2016 I had yet another operation for my Arnold Chiaria malformation (a structural defect in my cerebellum).

The hernia continues to cause me problems, so I need intensive rehabilitation all the time. My parents take me to speech therapy classes, sensory integration, music therapy, Johansen’s auditory stimulation as well as hand therapy, psychological therapy and of course daily physical therapy. All of these therapies are necessary for me so that I can have an easier time dealing with my everyday difficulties.

I also need to find time to study. I am a 5th grade elementary school student. I like to learn foreign languages, and I love to sing and play the synthesizer. I love Minecraft, fire trucks and ski jumping.

This year, during my summer holidays from school, I would like to go for some two-week rehabilitation stays. I will also travel across the country for many visits to specialists in Rzeszów, Warsaw and Krakow. Also, I am still growing, so I always need to buy new walking frames for my legs – without them I cannot move around the school.

I have a lot of urgent needs, and with my problems I will never be able to live a “normal” life, but with my parents and your help, I will be able to overcome some of my difficulties. Thank you for reading my story. If you cannot make a donation you can still help by sharing my website.
