We want to improve the life of patients in renal failure and on dialsysis. There’s an artifical kidney in clincial trials that is the most exciting & promising device that Emily and I have seen in 20 years since Seb our son was born with kidney disease.
We’re raising money to help the researchers on The Kidney Project. See:
https://pharm.ucsf.edu/kidney
As you know both our boys have had kidney transplants and spent time on dialysis. Life participation for them revolves around their kidney function. It can be very tough at times. This new bioartifical kidney could be the biggest breakthrough for patients of kidney disease and free them from dialysis and the longterm use of powerful drugs to prevent rejection.
Clinical trials are not cheap and The Kidney Project (part of the science faculty of the University of California San Francisco) need about $5M more USD in funds to complete these trials. See FAQ item 21:
https://pharm.ucsf.edu/kidney/device/faq
To get to the point where they can proceed with clinical trials they have already spent many years and millions of dollars so far. What they have done is demonstrated that it works in the lab and on animals, but they need to do human clinical trials before the device can be made avaiable to the public.
They can only continue their work at a fast pace if they have funding so we’re going to raise as much as we can. We will then take 100% of all donations made here and make a big family and friends donation directly to The Kidney Project.
This device will make a difference to the quality of life for our boys and for millions of other people around the world who suffer from kidney disease.
We’re looking to raise $20K. All funds will go directly to The Kidney Project. Please make your donation anonymously if you wish.
We’ll keep you up to date with developments. At this stage, if they get their funding, they should have the clinical trials wrapped up by the end of 2020. In the meantime we’re going to do our best to provide funding so they can stay on track.

Wolfie, you are a rare combo of a kidney donor who wears orange undies. Emily, you are a rare combo of a kidney donor who wears skirts that look like a grizzly bear.
