September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. In the US, pediatric cancer is the leading cause of death among chidlren- more than 16,000 children are diagnosed each year. This is terrifying! We need to fund research AND support kids and families who are battling for their lives every day. We can help make a difference!

When I was 8, I lost my next door neighbor and friend Louis to leukemia. He was only 11. His family stayed at the Ronald McDonald House near the hospital he was treated at so they didn’t have to drive back and forth from their home about 45 minutes away. The care and love they received during that impossibly difficult time made a horrible experience just the tiniest bit better. At that young age, I learned about the unfair way that pediatric cancer attacks. Now, as the mama of a healthy toddler, I’m grateful every day for her good health and can only fathom the fear of facing losing your child- and hope I never have to.

I’m a consultant with Usborne Books & More and I’m running this fundraiser through our grant matching program called Literacy for a Lifetime. It is a generous program that matches your monetary donation 50%! Our goal for this book drive is to raise $2,000 from businesses and individuals to be able to give the Ronald McDonald House at Rady’s Children’s Hospital $3,000 worth of brand new, high quality books and stuffed animals for children and families whose lives are being turned upside down by serious illness. That’s 120 book and bear sets!!

With our Cuddle Bear drive THIS week, we are donating sets of Cuddle Bear books and stuffed bears. Each sponsored set will go directly to a family when they check into the Ronald McDonald House at Rady Children’s Hospital. PLUS 5% of every bundle purchased will be donated to the Scott Carter Foundation to pursue treatments and methods to end pediatric cancer.

You can sponsor a child/family and give a Cuddle Bear book and stuffed animal for only $25! But since Usborne Books & More is matching donations at 50% once we have 10 children sponsored, they will donate 1 Cuddle Bear set for every 2 sets sponsored! AND money is donated to cancer research! Your impact is multiplied! Together we can acheive more!

Donate $25 to sponsor 1 child/family’s Cuddle Bear set. Contribute $100 and you’ll directly sponsor 4 chidlren, but your donation will really turn into 6 sets donated!
