TeamMED is a not for profit organisation that provides Monash University students an opportunity to experience and contribute to global health. In 2019, the Philippines team is travelling to Northern Samar to provide health education and medical supplies for a community in need.

Despite its beautiful landscape of lush green mountains and vast blue seas, the remote province of Northern Samar struggles beneath a huge burden of poverty.

The region is the fourth poorest in all of Philippines and faces constant threat from typhoons that disrupts food access, local agriculture and the livelihoods of families dependent on these industries.

With current healthcare systems facing many challenges in this rural setting, residents lack access to basic education and essential health services. As a result, malnutrition and maternity mortality rates are among the country’s highest and the community is plagued by preventable diseases.

TeamMED is working to improve the situation in three main ways:
