Ella has been severely ill for two years and has been diagnosed with severe Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME). ME is a complex, multi-system, neuroimmune condition with a multitude of debilitating symptoms affecting the Brain, Gastro-intestinal system, Immune system, Endocrine and Cardiac systems.

Ella is now profoundly disabled, effectively bedridden, unable to walk, sit up in bed for long or manage almost any aspect of self-care on her own.

This has impacted every aspect of her life, from the inability to study or attend school to socialising with friends and family. There is no clear treatment pathway for ME due to the fact that it’s a disease that has been under-researched and there is no known cure.

The emotional and practical aspects of caring for a chronically ill child over two years is taking its toll on the family and, unfortunately, Ella’s illness remains chronic and severe.

We are organizing an event on International ME/CFS Awareness Day to raise money for Ella’s cause. The event is designed to raise money and also provide a highly entertaining evening. The money raised will contribute to an appropriate treatment pathway that best suits Ella’s medical needs locally or overseas.

– Celebrity Guest MC, Gus Worland (MMM Team)

– Live Rock Band – MiCro is a powerful Australian cover band based on Sydney’s northern beaches at Narrabeen. They are best known for their ability to charge up any party or event with customised rock covers from 60’s till now in their repertoire.

– Saturday the 12th May at Bayview Golf Club (Pittwater Road, Bayview)

– 7pm to Midnight

– $145 each

-$1350 for a table of 10

Hello Everyone, On behalf of the Engel Family and the In It For Ella Committee, we would like to thank all of you that donated to the cause and/or attended what was a very successful evening. The support for Ella has been overwhelming, and despite the extremely generous amount that has been collectively raised, the real outcome was the warmth and the sense of community that this initiative has demonstrated. Ella and her family know they are supported and not alone in what will be a very long journey for them so thank you to everyone for your contribution. If you would like to continue to be involved, and live locally, you can help the family by preparing a meal that will take a load off their daily routine in caring for Ella. Family friend Janet Smith, has set up a tool via Gather My Crew, that allows you to nominate a night and what you would like to make. Meals do need to be gluten free, dairy free and sugar free and the best references for recipes are below. The routine is to leave the meal in an esky at the front door on the day you have nominated. Your dish will be washed and left out for you to collect. We are not looking to fill every day, but just once or twice a week will go a long way to helping the family manage their circumstances. We are just including this here as a few of you have asked about how you can continue to help and to share the load with those that have been preparing meals for the family for a while now. What is Gather My Crew? Gather My Crew is a free website that connects people to their own network of ‘helpers’ so they can get the help they need, when they need it most.
