Three-year-old Flynn was diagnosed in 2014 with a rare form of vasculitis called Polyarteritis Nodosa (PAN). His body’s immune system randomly and acutely attacks the arteries throughout his body causing significant malformations to his blood vessels, Flynn’s case is considered to be at the severe end of the spectrum and he has organ involvement which means it has affected, and can continue to affect, several organs in his body. Flynn’s body has been most affected in the areas of his kidneys, his heart and his legs, and as the condition is a progressive one, it means that other areas of his body may also be at risk. Because of the aggressive nature of his condition, Flynn commenced chemotherapy treatment when he was 1 year old as a means of stopping further progression of the condition. He spends a lot of time in Princess Margaret Hospital for children receiving lifesaving treatment and despite this treatment his condition continues to persist. Due to the severity of the condition, Flynn only has one functioning kidney and his limbs have been significantly affected. The main arteries supplying blood to his legs and feet are missing and he relies on smaller vessels to supply the blood flow, due to this and a number of clots that have developed, Flynn’s legs and feet are growing at different rates on each side of his body and it is not yet known how he will adapt to this. Flynn is reliant on several different types of medication throughout the day and night to help with his condition and to relieve severe pain. Due to the rarity of the condition, the prognosis for Flynn remains unknown.

Any funds raised will go towards the costs associated with Flynn’s care, and alleviating some of the financial burden for the family.
