My name is Sara, and I’m writing on behalf of my mom, Carol. My brother and I are reaching out because our mom needs support more than ever. For 30 years, Carol cared for others as a nurse—now it’s our turn to care for her. In early 2023, Carol was diagnosed with breast cancer that had already spread to her ribs and spine. Since then, it has spread further to her hips, pelvis, and liver. She has tried every treatment available—immunotherapy, radiation, trial drugs, and traditional treatments. Tragically, her body has reacted severely to every single option: *She developed jaw necrosis from bone-strengthening injections (a rare 0.01% complication). *A trial drug nearly caused kidney failure, which she is in month 7 of recovery from *Other medications caused severe full-body rashes, blisters, nausea, and extreme fatigue. *She has had numerous infusions, hydration, and IVs to balance her vitamin levels and electrolytes and to combat the hypercalcemia from the bone cancer. Despite all this, Carol hasn’t given up. She lives with immense daily pain from cancer in her bones, constant fatigue, nausea, and dangerous weight loss—yet she continues to fight, searching for something that will give her relief, more time, and more good days with her family and granddaughters. What’s the next step? The next step is a promising early medical trial not covered by insurance. This breakthrough treatment was first developed by a brilliant UCLA researcher, who—together with the mother of one of my students—founded NKore to share it with the world. The therapy uses supercharged natural killer cells (sNK cells) that have already been life-saving for my student, who is battling brain cancer. Now Carol has the chance to access this same cutting-edge therapy. Her oncologist and the NKore team believe it could work synergistically with her current immunotherapy to attack her cancer cells. The hope is to bring her less pain, less nausea, less fatigue—and more precious time.
