Our life as a newlywed couple was full of hope and a bright future before our world was turned upside down. Just six months ago, my husband, Anthony, had a stroke and made a full recovery. We were so grateful; he was feeling better than ever. Then, just weeks before celebrating our first anniversary, we had an accepted offer on our dream lake home and were excited to start living the life we had worked so hard to build. When a sudden and debilitating illness changed everything in an instant, and now, everything is on hold as we face a heartbreaking medical crisis. On July 22, what we thought was a simple doctor’s visit turned into a nightmare. Anthony quickly realized the weakness he was feeling was something far more serious, and we went to the local ER. Within a few hours, he lost the ability to move his legs. The next day, he was transferred to the neuro unit at St. Luke’s Hospital, where he underwent countless tests—from a spinal tap to a surgical biopsy—as doctors worked to find answers. After three weeks, we finally had a diagnosis: Neurosarcoidosis. But just as we were trying to process this news, things took a terrifying turn as the disease progressed further. Anthony lost the ability to move his arms and even breathe on his own. He was rushed to the ICU, where he has been ever since. He is currently “locked in” his body, communicating only with his eyes. To make matters even more complicated, our home was damaged by a recent flash flood just as Anthony’s condition worsened. So, while I’m focused on being at his side advocating, I’m also dealing with the stress of maintaining our home. As a family of faith, we believe in the power of prayer and are asking you to keep Anthony in your thoughts. We also understand that many people want to help in a tangible way. We have a long and uncertain road ahead of us, with medical bills mounting. We don’t know when Anthony will be able to come home, but we know it will be a long and difficult recovery. Rehabilitation and equipment: To help Anthony regain his mobility and strength so he’ll be able to come home.
