As many of you know, life has thrown more than our share of challenges our way, and now we are facing another one that I never could have imagined. Nathanial has recently been hospitalized after developing severe neurological complications from West Nile virus. Only about 1% of West Nile cases become this severe, and unfortunately, Nathanial is in that small percentage. What started as sudden migraines and stroke-like symptoms turned out to be neuroinvasive West Nile. He is currently in the ICMU (a step down from the ICU) with an unknown discharge date. He has been under the care of infectious disease and neurology teams, and while we are grateful for the doctors and for every small step forward, his recovery will be long. It will be weeks before Nathanial can return to work, and my greatest hope is that he can focus fully on healing — not on rushing back too soon out of financial stress. Unfortunately, between missed time from work, hospital copays, upcoming follow-up visits, and the likelihood of ongoing rehabilitation, the financial strain is more than we can carry on our own. Through all of this, Nathanial has shown incredible strength and resilience. Even on the hardest days, his determination shines through, and I know that with time, care, and support, he will continue to push forward.
