Product Description
I wanted to take a moment and give a family update that concerns our mother Kari Stafford. She was diagnosed with Metastatic Bile Duct cancer originating in the liver this month. We have an amazing team at TX Oncology working to give mom the best treatment plan possible. We will be starting chemo treatments next week. Her plan of care is to stop the cancer from spreading further and growing. This type of cancer cannot be cured. We are grateful for the team and treatments she will be receiving so we have time to spend with her. We would appreciate prayers and positive thoughts for our family. I have started a GoFund Me to offset costs for my moms cancer journey. We would appreciate a like share or even a donation. None is too small and would make my mom’s time left here just a little bit less stressful. We will be moving her into my house so she is not alone. The medical oncologist confirmed the source of origin is in the bile duct in the liver. Cholangiocarcinoma is the type of cancer she has. Chemo is recommended in this case. Surgery is not an option due to the amount of metastasis. He was worried about her kidney function because her last blood draw was so low. We were able to see the results from today’s blood draw and her kidney function jumped up a lot making her eligible for the chemo. If it hadn’t treatment wouldn’t have been an option for her cause it is too harmful unless your kidneys are functional. The chemo ( two medicines) along with immunotherapy will only stop the spread and growth in new areas. Basically a pause button to give us more time. She will still be in this current condition. But it won’t get worse for now. Survival rate for this type of cancer and treatment plan is about 50/50 that she will make it another year. The numbers go down from there. The percentages could be less or more; it all depends on how her body handles the treatment. However the diagnosis is terminal. Not a case of if but when. Chemo treatments will be every Friday for two weeks then one week off. This will repeat for 8 cycles. Eventually it will stop working all together and then we move on to a secondary chemo treatment if mom approves. Moms first chemo treatment is on Friday 9/5. We would be forever grateful for any donations received. The money will go directly to medical expenses and quality of life for our mother.
