Hello everyone, my name is Shirley Lee, one of Yuko’s best friends and Raizo’s Aunty. With a heavy heart, I’m here asking for help for one of the bravest little boys I know. Six-year-old Raizo has shown us the true meaning of resilience in his fight against Dipg. This journey began during what was supposed to be a fun-filled spring break trip to Japan. Raizo was out on the slopes, skiing and having the time of his life. But in the middle of all that joy, something shifted. His eye began turning inward, he developed unusual OCD-like behaviors, and within days his balance was off—he kept stumbling and couldn’t walk straight. When the family returned home, they went straight to the ER. What followed was every parent’s worst nightmare. The biopsy confirmed a devastating diagnosis: Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (Dipg)—an aggressive, inoperable brain tumor. Dipg attacks the brainstem, the most vital part of the brain that controls breathing, heartbeat, movement, swallowing, and so many of the things we take for granted each day. It slowly robs children of their ability to walk, talk, eat, and even breathe on their own—while often leaving their mind completely intact. With little time to process, the family learned that the best care would be at Seattle Children’s Hospital. They had no choice but to uproot their lives and leave home behind so Raizo could begin treatment. Since March, this sweet boy has endured more than most adults ever will—four surgeries, countless scans, long hospital stays, and treatments that would break most of us. Through it all, Raizo continues to smile, laugh, and show incredible strength—even on the hardest days. His parents have been by his side every step, surviving sleepless nights, impossible decisions, and unimaginable heartache, all while doing everything they can to give Raizo comfort, joy, and hope. Every donation, no matter the size, helps lift some of this heavy load and allows his family to focus on what truly matters—loving Raizo, giving him the best possible care, and holding onto hope.
