For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Becky Boncoddo. My daughter Joey fought her own battle with cancer beginning in 2020, and Meg and Jared Clairmont were there from the beginning to support us with anything we needed. When Jared and Meg texted me to tell me Jared had his own Stage 3 Colon Cancer diagnosis, I knew it was my turn to help them in the same way they have helped countless members of our community! Jared’s Cancer Journey… In March of this year, Jared went in for routine bloodwork and the results showed he was anemic. His doctor recommended a colonoscopy, and as luck would have it, his first one was already scheduled for early June. Unfortunately, the doctor’s suspicions were correct, and a tumor was found during his procedure. A biopsy confirmed it was cancerous, and on July 8th, Jared had surgery to remove the entirety of the tumor. He spent 4 days in the hospital, and the surgery was successful. Everything was removed, including 4 lymph nodes that were affected. Unfortunately, his cancer was found to be a stage 3 because of the tumor’s size and lymph nodes being involved, so his treatment plan now includes several rounds of chemotherapy. As if the weight of a cancer diagnosis isn’t heavy enough, the financial toll cancer takes on a family is significant. Jared’s ability to work will be significantly restricted, and even with health insurance, the amount of money for appointment and chemotherapy co-pays and treatments is substantial. Jared has an extremely positive attitude, and the goal of his care team is to completely heal him of cancer. It’s my hope that we can help him and his family get to the finish line not having to worry about any of the finances associated with his cancer treatment.
